A community project which helped Fairlight win the Village of the Year competition has been targeted by thieves.
Project Endeavour was the brainchild of 15 year old Alex Sullivan and helped bridge the generation gap by exchanging ideas, hobbies and skills which formed friendships between young and old.

But the project workshop, at Fairlight Recreation Groun
d was broken into recently and hundreds of pounds worth of tools stolen.
The theft was discovered on Monday.

The tools were to be used for older craftsmen in the village to give carpentry demonstrations to youngsters.

Alex said: "This is a terrible blow. I have even up my own money towards this project.

"The youngsters in our youth club are distraught."

Alex has received several awards for his project, which has taken more than two years to develop with the help of the parish council and police.

He is now appealing for the return of the tools or any information leading to their return.

Alex said: "We have an event organised for next week and without the tools it may have to be cancelled.

"We have put posters up all over the village pleading for the safe return of these items.

"It is nearing Christmas and whoever has stolen these tools has stolen from children in our community. We just want them back."
If you have any information, or would like to talk, in confidence, with the police, call 0845 60 70 99 and quote SN133of 17.11.08.
