Rye Bonfire Society has announced the date for next year's big event.
Thousands of people packed into the town for this year's spectacular celebrations on November 8.

Police reported a largely incident free night and the street collection was up on last year despite crowds being slightly down due to bad weather.

Next year's bonfire celebrations in Rye will take place on Saturday November 14.

Fund raising is already underway and the Bonfire Society is holding a Quiz Night on Friday November 28 at the Brewery Yard Club at Rye's Landgate.

Teams wishing to enter are invited to book-in with the Secretary, Ian Foster on 01797 223136 (daytime) or email adamsrye@aol.com. All are welcome.

Tickets are £5 per person to include a ploughman's supper. There will be a licensed bar.

Chris Drew, from the Bonfire Society, said: "The Rye Bonfire event costs approximately £12,000 to stage each year, and is entirely self-financing with no government grants or funding.

"Collections on the night may provide around one-third of the funds needed for the following year, but the balance must be raised by the efforts of members and supporters of the Society."

Rye Bonfire Society have praised Rother Council cleaners Verdant, for their clean-up efforts after this year's bonfire.

John Izod, from the Bonfire Society, said: "They did a superb job. The streets were clean by early on Sunday morning and you would not have known there had been a bonfire with thousands of people.

"They deserve a good deal of credit for that."
