SIX youngsters from the Littlehampton St John Ambulance Badger Sett have been rewarded after learning ‘how to be the difference’ in their community.

Each member of the group, all now aged 11, were presented with a Super Badger Award to mark their achievements at a special evening held at the Littlehampton headquarters, in Linden Park.

Anyone aged between five and ten years old can join their local Badger Sett and the Super Badger is the highest level award for this age group.

Kirsten Martin, Aidan Hemphill, Hannah Marshall, Hannah Ives, Eloise Austin and Abi Ginnaw were presented with their awards by St John Ambulance area manager Tom Dimmock and Littlehampton unit president Nigel Peters.

They were joined by Stephen Gearing, the Member of Youth Parliament for East Arun, Adur and Worthing.

St John Ambulance is the nation’s leading first aid charity, with a desire to teach everyone simple, life-saving skills.

Badgers can choose from 15 subjects to help complete their award, ranging from creative and active, to healthy and caring.

The charity explained that they also learn basic first aid skills, so even at a young age they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

This lively programme has been developed to enable young people to learn important life skills in a fun and safe environment. Young members become a Super Badger when they have completed 12 subjects.

Mr Dimmock said: “These young people have worked really hard for this award. They should be proud of what they have achieved, it was an absolute pleasure presenting them with their awards.”

Littlehampton Badgers meet weekly during term-time. For more information about joining, contact Julie Scully on 07986 130891.
