The midnight blue velvet evening slippers were expected to go for up to £15,000 when they went under the hammer at Bellmans Auction House in Wisborough Green yesterday (March 9).
But they were sold to a UK private collector after strong bidding online between buyers in the US as well as in Britain.

Both items were sold for the first time by Churchill’s family in a ‘Political Sale’ at Sotheby’s in 1998, where the vendor purchased them.
Bellmans auctioneer Julian Dineen said: “It’s been very exciting in the run up to the auction.
“Sir Winston Churchill is still highly regarded around the world and we had interest from both the media and from buyers from all over the world.
“It was only the second opportunity to acquire these wonderful items and especially the slippers saw significant interest.”
