The couple then retired to Sidmouth, Devon where they became much loved members of their town, becoming staple figures in many societies such as the golf club and the lawn bowls club.
Peggy believes one of the secrets to her longevity is the marching she did every morning during her service in the Second World War.
Peggy celebrated her big day at Elmcroft with a tea party and was overjoyed to receive her card from the queen.
Elmcroft manager, Monica Donald said: “Peggy is a popular and feisty resident and a huge part of Elmcroft - we love having her here.
“She had an amazing day even with restrictions.”
