Debates about how Noah could have kept all the animals alive in the ark miss the point of the story: God holds humankind accountable for our deeds and his power over us is absolute, as is shown in his creating the world in the first place and then unleashing the destructive power of the flood to make a fresh start with Noah. Today, when the reality of man-made climate change brings the potential for all kinds of apocalyptic disaster scenarios in the lifetime of our grandchildren, the Bible points us to a God who, though he has the power to destroy the world, has promised that he will not: the rainbow reminds us that he is faithful. Our future is in his hands. Tim Carter Brighton Road Baptist Church
