On Saturday August 28 he will be at Save The Children in Devonshire Road to face an incredible challenge to his strength and stamina - he aims to hit the punchbag no less than 140,000 in 12 hours. He reckons he can do this be keeping up a steady rate of three punches per second and reckons all he needs is to keep going - until he reaches the end. Gary, of Hillside Road, decided to raise funds this way in support of Save the Children and his wife Jackie who is the manager of the branch. Gary said: "Everyone thinks it's a great idea, and are 100 percent behind it. I'm hoping that lots of people will donate something, no matter how small. "I'll be doing it in the shop on August 28 starting at 6am, and have given myself twelve hours to complete it. "There will be buckets around me for people to sponsor me - or they can do so through www.justgiving.com/garyspunchbag." Gary will be accompanied on the day by his mate Jon Hiscocks who has trained with him and helped bring him to the peak of physical fitness - he will also be the main timer during the event. Gary added: "Everyone who I have told about it thinks that I am crazy - but they're behind it all the way, and I really hope that we can raise lots of money for Save The Children."
