Hastings residents of all ages dressed up as Normans and Saxons to take part in a giant people's parade from the Old Town, along the seafront and round the Town Centre.

The colourful procession, which was named La Grande Promenade, included Guys made by local children at a workshop at St Clements Church. Before the procession people enjoyed a variety of activities at the Stade Open Space and around the Old Town, including archery demonstrations, a colourful daytime fireworks display and a noisy drum-off between Norman and Saxon drumming groups. The aim of the procession was to include more local people in the 950th celebrations ahead of the big torch-lit bonfire procession in the evening.
