LONGER pizza takeway hours could help sober up drinkers a little, says a councillor.

Burgess Hill Town Council's planning committee is supporting the later hours application by Domino Pizzas.

The firm wants to serve food until 1am from Friday to Sunday and until midnight from Monday to Thursday to serve people who like to stay up and eat late.

And some councillors thought giving people more opportunity to soak up alcohol with pizzas might play a small part in preventing anti-social behaviour from potential drunks.

Cllr Sue Knight told the committee: "I have no objection to one o'clock because the bars are open to one o'clock.

"I do believe having food inside them sobers them up a little."

Mid Sussex District Council will decide the Domino application at a future date, and the town council is sending its comments to the authority.
