PEVENSEY teenagers dodging traffic on the by-pass and then tombstoning into the river have been warned by police.
The youngsters have been playing a double dare game by running across the busy A27 at Pevensey and then jumping over a bridge into the Haven river.

Police were called to the scene at 3pm on August 15 and in the evening the next day. The group of youths were moved away from the area on both occasions.

Norman Beaney, a farmer and parish councillor who lives near the river said, "This is a crazy game.

"The traffic does at least 60mph on the A27, with some motorcycles doing more than 100mph.

"They are then jumping over the bridge and into the river which can vary in depth from eight feet to just a few inches because of the sluice just downstream.

"Some of the cars and lorries were hooting their horns and us residents were concerned so we made emergency 999 calls in the end.

"It only needs one of them to land on their head and they will be done for. Sooner or later someone is going to lose their life."
